Christmas cards 2015

Hey! Long time no see!

I just finished making Christmas cards for an upcoming holiday. Better late than never, huh? So this years’ cards aren’t exactly super fast to make as they require couple of steps in preparation; if you however prepare all elements in batches the work goes quite fast.

As you see, all my cards feature an origami star. While it takes time to fold them I found the process amazingly calming and satisfying and, in the end, that is what papercraft is all about, right? So I was happily folding away my stars while watching TV but couldn’t decide on a background for them so I have couple of different ones there: patterned paper, distress ink circle, distress ink rectangle and watercolour. In the end I settled on watercolour because, again, I enjoyed doing that the most and I liked the the look too. So majority of my cards have watercolour background but I’m showing you here all kinds I attempted.

My process was as follows:

1. Fold the stars. I followed this tutorial. Super easy.

2. Paint rectangle-ish shape on a card base with watercolours and let it dry.

3. Add splotches of white pearlescent paint to the background (and let it dry).

4. Stamp the sentiment on stripes of paper. I distressed edges on some of them but in the end I preferred the simple look so I just left them white.

5. Attach a star to the card base, embellish with glitter glue / dry clear rock candy glitter / clear Wink of Stella pen. Here also I liked the simplest effect the most and I end up using Wink of Stella on most of the stars. Add pearl / brad /rhinestone to the centre. Add sequins to the background.

6. Attach sentiment with on 3-D mount.

Voila!
